Illegally tattooing myself and my frands...

Its my new hobby. a slippery slope of ink designs. I just bought a machine and - as it turns out- I'm pretty good at it. So I came here to ask for tattoo ideas... andddddd GO!

Well done. Creativity is an amazing thing. I never realised there was such a thing as illegal tattoos. Is it difficult to get registered as a legal tattoo artist?

yea its super difficult to get an apprenticeship around here. probably because i dont know any tattoo artists personally. ive hear that they risk losing money if their apprentice flops and i think thats why it may be so hard. as for illegal tattoos.. 😞 - yea. i had a self- righteous tattoo artist jump on my case because me tattooing without an apprenticeship is "disrespecting the art form" - like, whatever man. how about "respect the journey"

the vine is a complete redo/ touch-up and the last one is a tree spirit my friend picked from google images. i just put my own spin on it with the stripes and dots. i also experimented with a bit of white ink there

no its not bad. when i was working up the nerve to do my tattoo i was so nervous about it bc im such a wimp when it comes to pain. A lot of it is positional, too. Certain places are more tender than others.

Might want to invest in an autoclave, or hep c tests. I'd save up for the former.

Ive got like 2 really trashy tattoos that i did myself and am now gonna cover up with other artwork because i was just trying out my new machine on myself and it doesnt look pretty. One of them was going to say "chaos" but i didnt finish the word and the other says "thought criminal" lmao. Besides that ive got tattoos that are kinda meh done by artists that i want to improve this year and others that i dont relate to anymore and am gonna cover up as well. I started getting tattoos when i was 18 and im now 26 so yeah. But i love the look of cover up tattoos even when you can sorta see whats underneath. It doesnt look messy to me idk why i think it creates a kind of synergy which makes it interesting to look at, the interaction between the past and the present on the skin. Tattoos are meant to tell a story after all, I even believe they leave imprints on our karma and dharma, so it's normal to change your mind once you start feeling their effects on your energy or they just stop being compatible with your vibration when it changes at some point.

i don't think that's entirely true.

like within certain isolated indigenous tribes, yes.  tattoos/scarification tend to form a rite of passage, a tale of tribe member progressing through life.  but we're not in primitive dwellings, dependent on hunting for survival.  we have a sphere of western influence and social factors come heavily into play, mostly by what is deemed as fashionable, trendy, etc (see kat von d, for example)

go with what suits you, whatever you fancy.  but arguably, there should be an element of artistic flair involved.  otherwise it becomes silly.

Of course i did it for the aesthetics hahaha. Im just saying everything is energy. Especially something you put on your skin as a scar. Just because the context in which we do it has changed and there is no ceremony associated to it anymore doesn't mean it's no longer a sacred ritual. But of course it's also meant to be done for the aesthetics. It always has been. What I meant is that cover ups look good period. But there is more to tattoos than meets the eye in my humble opinion. Im just saying this bevause i studied the history of tattooing and know for a fact that it's an ancient thing. We basically appropriated it.

I like the idea of this point, the act itself being sacred and spiritual.  Thing is, I've never been inked myself, so I wouldn't be able to understand that perspective fully.  Anyway, what great stories do we have to tell?  What great tales will we pass down to our ancestral brethren that follow when we are dust?  Developing a family unit is just a normal aspect of anyone's life, and I struggle to see how that's worth getting inked for (though folks do it all the time).  Besides, I just have this comical notion of people getting absurdly tatted for normal pivotal life points, such as:

>paid off the student loan
>preapproved for higher credit
>put downpayment on sibling's wedding

I agree with you. There is no point in getting tattoos like a madman. Prejudice all over. I dont regret getting tattoos though but i wish i would've hired better artists instead of rushing to the first opportunity that appeared. Anyway, the cover-ups will look awesome. I'll show you once they're done. Maybe ill make a post her on the forum id thats appropriate o.0

I'll give you the quick lore.

Vampirefreaks was the biggest and most popular goth social network, predating even MySpace with band profiles, models and user created forums and journals to list a few core components.  It was a hive of drama and trolling, a real rollercoaster of laughs and tears which came to an end five years ago.

But in its heyday, there were numerous sitewide competitions and the VF logo tattoos came out of it.  It was comically awful to say the least.
